TRISHA YEARWOOD CONCERT AT ABAC MAY 12

TIFTON—The spotlight will be on one of the most powerful female voices in the recording industry on May 12 when Trisha Yearwood performs for the 35th annual Dollars For ABAC Scholars.

Sponsored by the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Foundation, the event will be held for the first time ever at the John Hunt Auditorium of the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center.   All proceeds benefit ABAC student scholarships.

“With the popularity of Trisha Yearwood, we knew we would need more space than what we have in the dining hall,” Betty McCorvey, Assistant Director of Development for ABAC, said.  “We have 2,000 seats to sell, and we’re hoping to really give our student scholarship program a boost by selling them all.”

McCorvey said tickets for prime concert seating and a pre-show banquet are $125 each. Concert tickets without the meal are $75 each.   A portion of the cost for all tickets is tax deductible.   Tickets will go on sale March 13.  Platinum Scholarship sponsors for the event are Ameris, Kelley Manufacturing, Planttel, and The Stafford Companies.

Reserved tables for the meal, which include eight tickets together in a prime concert location, are $1,250 each.  For more information, interested persons can call the ABAC Foundation Office at (229) 391-4897 or visit the ABAC web site at www.abac.edu.

Yearwood is a Monticello, Ga., native who first hit the radio airwaves with “She’s In Love With The Boy” in 1991.  Since that time, she has had nine number one hits with such tunes as “That’s What I Like About You,” The Woman Before Me,” “Thinkin’ About You,”, and “A Perfect Love.”

Her latest album, “Jasper County,” is a collection of 11 songs ranging from “Baby Don’t You Let Go” to “Georgia Rain” to “Standing Out In A Crowd.”

Yearwood won back-to-back Country Music Association awards as Female Vocalist of the Year in 1997 and 1998.  She has won three Grammy awards and sang at the closing ceremonies for the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

A member of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Yearwood had a recurring role on the CBS-TV series, “Jag.”   In 1999, Yearwood was inducted into the cast of the Grand Ole Opry.

Yearwood has also contributed to movie soundtracks such as “Hope Floats,” “Stuart Little,” “Thing Called Love,” and “Honeymoon in Vegas.”

Yearwood is married to country music superstar Garth Brooks.  She is the daughter of Jack Yearwood, a member of the ABAC Class of 1952.  Mr. Yearwood passed away in September, 2005.
