WELCOME WEEK AT ABAC BEGINS AUGUST 20
TIFTON—Welcome
Week 2006 will take place at
Bernice Hughes, Dean of Student Life and Housing, said, “We wanted to put this week together because we want the students of ABAC to make connections outside the classroom, as well as inside.”
On Aug. 20 from 3 – 6 p.m., a picnic for commuter students and their families will he held in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The two events scheduled on Aug. 21 are “Pimp Your Cell Phone” in front of Baldwin Library from noon – 3 p.m. and a Multicultural Mixer at 5 p.m. in the dining hall.
A Meeting with Vendors will be held in the Nickelodeon from 5-6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, followed by Loco’s Restaurant Karaoke by Autumn from 7-9:30 p.m. in the Nickelodeon. On Aug. 23, students can make their own CDs in the dining hall from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. courtesy of Hot Traxx. That night, Cory Smith with Beautiful Darkness will perform at the Intramural Field from 7 – 11 p.m.
On Aug. 24, Echovalve, Hybrid-L and Beautiful Darkness will be in concert from 6-9:30 p.m. in front of the library.
The week will culminate on Aug. 25 at 11:15 a.m. with the Presidential Inauguration and Freshman Convocation for the Centennial Class of 2008 in Gressette Gym. The featured speaker for this event is the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Erroll B. Davis, Jr. The President’s Picnic will follow the convocation with musical entertainment provide by Blackbird.
This week of events is a joint effort between the Campus Activities Board (CAB), the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM), the Student Government Association (SGA), the Minority Academic Social Development Association (MASDA) and the Student Success Community.
“I anticipate a good response from the students. We hope this will introduce them to the activities on campus and let them know that they have a voice and to get involved,” Hughes said.
Fall term classes begin at ABAC on Aug. 21.
