ABAC OFFERS AID TO HURRICANE EVACUEES
TIFTON – In the wake of Hurricane
Katrina,
A Hurricane Relief donation jar is located on the main floor of the Baldwin Library for anyone who wants to contribute to the relief effort. The Red Cross will pick up these donations. Checks should be made out to the Red Cross.
A collection center is now open in
Lewis Hall. The hours of operation for this center are 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday. The hurricane victims need baby items, bottled water, canned
goods, clothing, children’s toys, cleaning supplies, toiletries,
blankets/pillows, towels/washcloths, shoes (new), medical supplies, sleeping
bags, batteries, and kitchenware.
A three-on-three basketball
tournament, “Hoopin’ to Fight the Hurricane”, takes place on Sept. 24 with a
portion of the proceeds going to benefit Hurricane Katrina evacuees. The
tournament will be held at Thrash and Gressette gyms on the ABAC campus. The

The Forestry and Wildlife Club will be selling funnel cakes in front of Conger Hall Sept. 23 to help aid in the Hurricane Katrina efforts. The funnel cakes are $2 each.
The Image Committee of the Division of Nursing and Health Services is selling barbeque pork and chicken plates for $6 with all the proceeds going to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Plates include barbeque pork or half a barbeque chicken with baked beans, potato salad and bread. Plates can be picked up at the Gaines Hall parking lot from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27. The deadline to purchase the meal tickets is Sept. 23. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can come to the Office of Enrollment Services or contact Ramonda Holton at (229) 391-5006. The ABAC College Democrats will be collecting books to send to all evacuees who are currently being housed in shelters. All types of books are needed. Drop boxes are set up around the campus or students can place all donated books in a box outside Dr. Kay Weeks’ office in King Hall, Room 2B.
A gospel concert
is scheduled on Sept. 24 to assist in the effort to help all those affected in
