UNIVERSITY
SYSTEM APPROVES PROMOTIONS FOR ABAC FACULTY
TIFTON--The Board of Regents of the
University System of Georgia recently approved the promotions of six faculty
members at
Jeff Newberry was promoted to the rank of assistant
professor from instructor. Donna Hatcher, Dr. Marvin Holtz, and Abul Sheikh
were promoted to the rank of associate professor from assistant professor. Dr. Mary Ellen Hicks was promoted to the rank of professor from
associate professor.
Receiving tenure for the coming
year are Hatcher, Sue Wilson, and Dr. Joseph Njoroge. Tenure may be granted to a faculty member who
has served at least five years as an assistant professor and has shown the
potential for making significant contributions to the college and in the
faculty member’s field. Tenure gives protection a faculty member protection
from summary dismissal.
Newberry,
who has been a
faculty member at ABAC since 2002, teaches in the Division of Humanities. He
received a B.S. and a M.S. degree in English from the
Hatcher, who began teaching in the Division
of Humanities in 2000, earned her B.F.A. in Sculpture and Art History from the
Holtz, who has been a faculty member at
ABAC since 2001, teaches in the Division of Science and Mathematics. He holds a
B.S. degree in Biology from
Sheikh has been
teaching in the Division of Business Administration since 1990. He received his
B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from
Hicks is a
former ABAC student who has been teaching in the Division of Agriculture and
Forest Resources since 1989. She holds a D.V.M in Veterinary Medicine from the
Njoroge received his B.A. in Political
