HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM BEGINS IN THE FALL

TIFTON— A Healthcare Management Certificate Program will be offered at Abraham Baldwin College through the Public Service and Business Outreach Center beginning with the fall term.

Tami Dennis, a registered nurse who has an A.S. in Nursing from ABAC and a B.S.N. and M.S.N. in Nursing from Valdosta State University, will teach the certificate program. She has 15 years experience as a nurse manager.

There will be two classes conducted in the fall taught by Dennis; Human Resource Development from Sept. 12 – Oct. 10 and Cultural Competency and Diversity Issues Oct. 24 – Nov. 21.

Erin Womack, Program Coordinator for ABAC’s Public Service and Business Outreach Center said, “This is local training led by a local instructor.”

This program was developed in partnership with the Georgia Nurses Association, the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education, the University System of Georgia, and Georgia Lifelong Education And Economic Development Services (LEADS).

“We are one of the nine colleges and universities offering this program in its first year,” Womack said

The program is designed for healthcare professionals including nurses, therapists, and medical technologists who have supervisory duties. All healthcare professionals interested in this program must have an associate’s degree.

Through this program, first time supervisors will gain the confidence and skills to become more effective healthcare managers while still maintaining full-time work schedules.

“We are excited about offering a certificate program for clinically trained professionals to become managers and administrators in their field,” Womack said.

The certificate program is comprised of six 15-hour modules which include six hours of classroom instruction with nine hours of online classes. The modules can stand alone or be taken in sequence.

Participants who complete all six modules, the end-of-module exams, and the assignments will receive a Certificate of Completion and nine Continuing Education Units.

Other institutions participating in this program are Albany State University, Augusta State University, Medical College of Georgia, Bainbridge College, Clayton State University, Dalton State College, Darton College, Georgia Southern University, Southern Polytechnic State University, and the University of Georgia.
