ABAC BEGINS SOCIAL SECURITY
CONVERSION
TIFTON- Privacy and security have become
big issues among many organizations. In order to prevent identity theft or
other privacy issues from taking place,
Dr.
Chrystle Ross, ABAC’s Executive Director of
Information Technology Services said, “The biggest application that will
undergo this conversion will be the student’s Gold Cards and IDs. Because they
are each used for so many purposes, we are going to make the conversion of
these cards as inconvenient for the students as possible.”
Blackboard,
the vendor that is connected with the Gold Card, will need about six weeks to
process the conversion on their end to make the conversion a reality. Numbers
will be similar to the generated ones on a driver’s license.
“We
are taking as much time as needed to make sure things run smoothly,” said Ross.
The
date for when this conversion will be completed has no been decided upon. The
conversion could be complete as early as the end of May or as late as August.
“This
conversion is beneficial because people will no longer have to use a number
that needs so much protection. People need to be increasingly aware of
protecting their social security numbers,” said Ross.
