BROWN RECIPIENT OF WINE & SPIRITS SCHOLARSHIP

TIFTON- Sam Brown, a non-traditional cooperative degree student from Norman Park, has received a scholarship to Abraham Baldwin College worth $1, 922 from the Wine and Spirits Wholesaler Foundation.

On hand for the presentation were Tom Call, Interim President of ABAC; Fred Kitchens of the Wine and Spirits Wholesaler Foundation; Paul Thomas of United Distributors; Jim Glass and Shawn Utley of Moultrie Technical College; Regent Julie Hunt; Representatives Penny Houston and Jay Roberts, and Senator Rooney Bowen.

Brown, a newlywed of four months to wife Mary Beth, has only attended ABAC for a year at the Moultrie location of ABAC on the Square. He is attaining a cooperative degree in carpentry between ABAC and Moultrie Tech and has already begun teaching at Moultrie.

Brown said, “I’m honored and grateful for the scholarship that has been given to me.” Brown has worked a full-time job while maintaining a GPA of 4.0.

The scholarship awarded by the Wine and Spirits Wholesaler Foundation is given every other year to a non-traditional student who shows financial need with outstanding academic standing. Each business in the foundation is a family-owned Georgia business.

Scholarships have been given by this organization for the past 40 years, resulting in 938 scholarships totaling almost $1 million. This year alone, 24 scholarships were awarded to 20 institutions for a total of over $47,000.
