FOURTEEN GRADUATE FROM 199TH ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Fourteen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 199th Session of the South Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

Academy Director Ray Saxon said that William S. Payne of the Sylvester Police Department received the Overall Achievement Award for the 199th session. The Academic Achievement Award went to Isaac J. Garcia, Jr. from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, with second place going to Payne.

The Firearms award went to Gene G. Fandel of the Tifton Police Department. Second place in this category was earned by William M. Thomas of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. The president of the 199th session was Theodore G. McCarthy of the Thomasville Police Department.

Other graduates included Tameka L. Bailey of the Douglas Police Department; Ronnie T. Bennett of the Omega Police Department; Billy C. Brogdon, Jr., of the Hahira Police Department; Anthony Chesser of the Pearson Police Department; Richard A. Goodman from the Coolidge Police Department; Melvin T. Gore from the Thomasville Police Department; Sanita E. Hampton, sponsored by the South Georgia Police Academy, from Fayetteville; Gregory T. Richey of the Arlington Police Department; and Tommy F. Sellars of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.  

The South Georgia Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
