                                                       TWENTY-FOUR GRADUATE FROM 197TH ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

TIFTON—Twenty-four individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 197th Session of the South Georgia Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

Academy Director Ray Saxon said that James L. Barker, Jr. of the Valdosta State University Department of Public Safety received the Overall Achievement Award for the 197th session. Barker also served as president of the class.

 The Academic Achievement award went to Wilburn L. Leschber, III, of the Valdosta Police Department. Second place in this category was earned by Wiley A. Gammon, III, of the VSU Department of Public Safety. First place in Firearms was awarded to Jeremy K. McDaniel of the Albany Police Department with second place going to Barker.

Stephen Goss, Superior Court Judge of the Dougherty County Circuit in Albany, was the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony.

Other graduates included Stephen T. Aycock of the Camilla Police Department; Michael T. Clark of the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office; Donald R. Enfinger, Jr., of the Early County Sheriff’s Office; Jeremiah Fenn of the Dougherty County Police Department; Charles E. Flowers, Jr., from the Albany Police Department; Terrance T. Griffin from the Cairo Police Department; Larry D. Grisby of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; and Forest T. Hormell of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.  

Other graduates included Scott R. Jacoby of the Valdosta Police Department; Corey M. Johnson of the Albany Police Department; Andrea R. LaMontagne of the Valdosta Police Department; Stanley W. Long of the Donaldsonville Police Department; John W. Mills of the Albany Police Department; Robert E. Norris of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; James E. Page, III, of the Albany Police Department; Deborah M. Pyles of the ABAC Police Department; William J. Rodgers, Jr. of the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office; Charles W. Scarbary of the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office; Eric D. Shelton of the Valdosta Police Department; and Elex L. Washington of the Fitzgerald Police Department.

The South Georgia Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
