MR. ABAC TO BE CHOSEN FEBRUARY 10

TIFTON--Twenty-eight men attending Abraham Baldwin College will compete for the title of Mr. ABAC in the 14th annual competition on Feb. 10. The theme for this year’s event is “Back in the 50s.” Sponsored, produced, and directed by the Family and Consumer Sciences Club, the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The cost is $3 for general admission.

Contestants are sponsored by campus clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, and student media. They will compete in casual attire, formal attire, and interview categories. Contestants will also be judged on a written timed essay. The top contestant will receive a plaque and a cash prize. A contestant’s award will also be given. The recipient of this award is chosen by the other contestants. The Family and Consumer Sciences Club members will choose “Mr. Photogenic,” “Best Eyes,” “Best Smile,” and other awards.

            Dotty Davis, from K-Country 104.5, and John Baldwin will emcee the event. Entertainment will be provided by Stacia Watkins and Devon Fleming, Miss Plantation Trace, and the ABAC dance group Sabor Latino. Family and Consumer Sciences Club President Lotte McGowan of Augusta will present the award to Mr. ABAC 2004. Last year’s winner was David Brady of Thomasville.

            Students involved in this year’s competition include Steven Alamo, a business administration major from Abbeville; John L. Allen, a chemistry (pre-medicine) major from Adel; Willie Deon Allen, a secondary education major from Tifton; Elton Taylor Baldy, a pre-veterinary medicine major from Norman Park; Allen Barrett, an agricultural engineering technology major from Richland; Michael Eric Betts, an agricultural engineering technology  major from Bainbridge; Mack Branch, a business major from Tifton; Stephen Bruner, an animal science major from Stuart, Fla.; Jackson “Tyler” Buck, a business major from Midway; Justin Calhoun, a golf turf/commercial turf/landscape major from Colquitt; Ronald Camon, an education/recreation major from Ray City; Richard Edward Chaney, a computer information systems/allied health major from Fitzgerald; Joe Scott Childs, Jr., a journalism major from

Doerun; James Cook, an ornamental production major from Baxley; and Shawn Cox, an animal science major from Covington.


            Also competing are Trey Davis, an agriculture major from Ocilla; George Farmer, an agricultural equipment technology/golf turf management major from Tallahassee, Fla.; Andrew Gaines, a livestock health/animal science major from Winterville; Richard Hernandez, a criminal justice major from Bells, Tenn.; Paul Lovett, an early childhood education major from Fitzgerald; Samuel McGaughey, an animal science/herd health major from Lakemont; Jesse Franklin McMillan, a pre-dentistry major from Enigma; Matthew L. Monroe, a pre-veterinary medicine major from Griffin; Jason Poppell, an engineering major from Tifton; Noe Rodriguez, an engineering aeronautical major from Perry; Adam Speir, a forest resources major from Dawson; Davy Whitener, a general business major from Kennesaw; and Aaron Young, a business/marketing major from Fitzgerald.
