                                                            FIRST TUESDAY SERIES CONCERT OCTOBER 5

TIFTON— The First Tuesday Performance Series at Abraham Baldwin College on Oct. 5 will “swing” into autumn with a concert featuring jazz and big band classics such as Stardust, In the Mood, and Unforgettable.

The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. The concert is sponsored by the Stafford Foundation and is free of charge.  

Guest performers for this event are Jim Newton and his jazz band and Cary Brague. The Newton group was the “house band” for the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta for 12 years and has played numerous times at the “Love Affair.” The band is comprised of  Boudleaux Allen, lead guitarist;  Ralph Jernigan, bass guitarist; Jimmy Knowles, drums; and Willie Hammett; trumpet.

Brague is the Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant Professor of Music at Valdosta State University. He travels throughout the United States as a jazz performer and educational clinician. Brague has performed with artists Tony Bennett and Debbie Reynolds, as well as being part of the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra. He has worked at the collegiate level for five years, both at VSU and at Kennesaw State University.
