TWO HEP STUDENTS BECOME EAGLES

 

TIFTON- Jesus Cerezo Garcia and Carlos Eduardo Sanchez Ramirez from the Abraham Baldwin College High School Equivalency Program (HEP) recently won the Tift County Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) competition at Moultrie Technical College’s Tifton campus.

            Garcia is majoring in Computer Information Technology at ABAC . He participated in the GED Graduate level of the competition. Ramirez participated in the GED category of the competition and is attending the HEP Program. Both will represent Tift County at the next competition slated for Nov. 5 at Moultrie Tech.

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education Office of Adult Literacy sponsor the EAGLE program statewide. Locally the program is sponsored by Moultrie Tech. Jerry Smith, Adult Literacy Director said, “The objective of the EAGLE program is to recognize and reward excellence among students attending adult literacy classes in Georgia. It is the first statewide program in the nation to honor outstanding adult literacy students.”

 

 

 

First, students must be nominated by a teacher. The students present a 3-5 minute speech and complete an interview. The judges then select two students to represent

Moultrie Tech in the state competition. The two state winners will be named Adult Literacy Ambassadors for Georgia and will receive $2,005 each, and their nominating teachers will receive $250 each.
