ABAC OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO HISPANIC/LATINO STUDENTS

TIFTON--Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College--a leader in providing educational opportunities to Hispanic/Latinos--has announced that The Goizueta Foundation of Atlanta has awarded the college a $500,000 grant to provide financial assistance and educational resources for Hispanic/Latino students whose families currently reside in the United States.

The intent of The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund is to fully support the cost of an academic year, which includes unfunded tuition, fees, books, and other expenses related to the cost of education. To be eligible to receive The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Scholarship for the 2004-05 school year, a student must be Hispanic/Latino, accepted to ABAC with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher, able to demonstrate a financial need, and reside in the United States of America.

The process includes a completed scholarship application packet that must be accompanied by a college or high school transcript/GED certificate, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the admission’s application for ABAC. Applications can be obtained from local high school counselors or from the ABAC website at www.abac.edu. The deadline is March 1, 2004, and students may reapply annually.

Roberto C. Goizueta established The Goizueta Foundation in 1992 to provide financial assistance to educational and charitable institutions. The Foundation is a private, general purpose, grant-making foundation whose mission is to assist organizations that empower individuals and families through educational opportunities to improve the quality of their lives.

“We are most honored to be selected by The Goizueta Foundation for this important grant,” ABAC President Mike Vollmer said. “The funds will enable ABAC to further expand educational opportunities for generations of college students.”

Interested students should submit an application, along with all supporting documents, to: Missy Hutto, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, 2802 Moore Highway, ABAC 13, Tifton, GA  31793-2601.
