APPLY NOW FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DEGREE AT ABAC

A Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education through Valdosta State University is currently available on the Abraham Baldwin College campus. The program began in the fall of 2002.

Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2003 cohort. Interested students should complete the VSU/ABAC Early Childhood Education (ECE) Online Information Form, which can be completed online at ABAC’s Evening and Off-Campus web page.

Transcripts of all college work students have completed should be sent to ABAC’s Evening and Off-Campus Program Office at ABAC 10, 2802 Moore Highway, Tifton, GA 31793-2601. Students must also apply for admission to VSU.

Students who apply now will be notified in early April of their acceptance into the program. If spaces remain after the initial cut-off date of April 1, applications will be accepted until July 1.

Priority will be given to students with an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, but those with degrees in other areas or with at least 45 credit hours of college work are encouraged to apply for the Fall 2003 cohort.

Classes are taught at night and online for the convenience of students who work during the day. Each fall, a new cohort of approximately 30 students will begin the program. Courses are taught in sequence so that students can finish the program in eight semesters.

Dr. Gail Dillard, Director of Evening and Off-Campus Programs at ABAC, said in view of the current teacher shortage, ABAC is pleased to be able to offer this degree program for area residents.

“It is now possible to complete both the associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education at night at ABAC, so students can earn their degrees without having to quit their current jobs,” Dillard said. “The program is particularly well suited to paraprofessionals who want to move into the teaching profession.”

Of course, students can still earn an associate’s degree at ABAC in other areas of education besides early childhood. Dillard said in the future VSU may offer B.S. degrees in middle grades or secondary education at ABAC along with the early childhood education degree.
