9/11 POETRY READING AT ABAC

Pegasus, Abraham Baldwin College’s award-winning literary magazine, will host a 9/11 Memorial Poetry Reading on the Pedestrian Mall, near the fountain, on Sept. 11 from 3 – 4 p.m. In the event of rain, the reading will be held in Room 202 of the Baldwin Library. The event is open to anyone who would like to attend.

The readings should address the 9/11 tragedy or other related topics, including patriotism, freedom, or the sacrifices of the United States military overseas. Participants may read their own works—poetry or short prose passages—or the writings of their favorite authors.

Dr. Herbert Shippey and Dr. Su Senapati, co-advisors of Pegasus, are coordinating the poetry reading on campus.

“We feel it is important to have an event such as this because we as a country are still dealing with the aftermath of 9/11,” Shippey said. “It is important not to forget 9/11 and to keep in mind all that has come out of that tragic event—the tremendous loss of lives as well as our current military involvement overseas. This poetry reading is an opportunity to memorialize all those who died on 9/11 and to keep these events in our minds and hearts. Poetry is an excellent medium for expressing feelings, and we encourage everyone to attend this very important event.”
