MR. ABAC TO BE CHOSEN MARCH 11

Thirty-seven men attending Abraham Baldwin College will compete for the title of Mr. ABAC in the 13th annual competition on March 11. The theme for this year’s event is “City Slickers.” Sponsored, produced, and directed by the Family and Consumer Sciences Club, the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The cost is $2 for ABAC students with student ID and $3 for general admission.

Contestants are sponsored by campus clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, and student media. They will compete in casual attire, formal attire, and interview categories. Contestants will also be judged on a written timed essay. The top contestant will receive a plaque and a cash prize. A contestant’s award will also be given. The recipient of this award is chosen by the other contestants. The Family and Consumer Sciences Club members will choose “Mr. Photogenic,” “Best Eyes,” “Best Smile,” and other awards.

            Dotty Davis from B-100 will emcee the event. Entertainment will be provided by the ABAC Gospel Choir and the ABAC dance group Sabor Latino. Family and Consumer Sciences Club President Katie Stripling of Moultrie will present the award to Mr. ABAC 2003. Last year’s winner was Nathan Johnson of Tifton.

            Students involved in this year’s competition include Angel Aguilar, a fashion design major from Naples, Fla.; Matt Barron, a wildlife technology major from Covington; Brian Bohanon, a wildlife technology major from Dallas; D. J. Bradshaw, an animal science major from Clayton; David Brady, a wildlife technology major from Thomasville; Billy Bryant, a wildlife technology major from Monticello; Phillip Capes, a biology major from Covington; Joseph Chastain, a forestry major from Rabun Gap; David Cortez, a pre-medicine major from Nashville; Shawn Cox, an agricultural equipment technology major from Covington; Trey Davis, an agriculture major from Ocilla; George Farmer, an agricultural equipment technology major from Tifton; Zach Hammons, an animal science major from Toccoa; and Zachary Harris, a forestry major from Marietta.

            Also competing are Dustin L. Haskins, an aquatic sciences major from Quitman; Benny Hayes, a sociology major from Alexandria, La.; Quentin Hill, an education major from Moultrie; Randall Hunt, a landscape design major from Thomson; John (Allen) Hutto, an information technology major from Tifton; Anthony L. Kelly, a pre-law/political science major from Ty Ty; Ben Kennedy, an agriculture education major from Collins; Paul Lovett, an early childhood education major from Fitzgerald; Eric Perez Marshall, a business information technology major from Sylvester; Jesse Drayton Minick, an agricultural equipment technology major from Saluda. S.C.; Tyrone Mingle, a family and children services major from Sylvania; and Kevin Mitchell, a business administration/pre-law major from Ocilla.

            Other contestants include Mark Niday, a pharmacy major from Fitzgerald; Matthew North, a business administration major from Hahira; Marcus Pollard, a wildlife technology major from Senoia; Matthew Powell, an agriculture education major from Wrightsville; Reginald Rainge, an early childhood education major from Blakely; John Rodman, a journalism major from Tifton; Jonathan “J .W.”  Wilson, an animal science major from Cuthbert; Rhett Sloan, an agricultural engineering major from Conyers; Deon Sturdivant, a physical education major from Bogart; Brett Tucker, an agriculture business major from Ocilla; and Reginald Donterrius Williams, a sports medicine major from Moultrie.
