DESSERTS HIGHLIGHT MAY 9 BENEFIT AT ABAC

        The “Incredible Edible Mile” will showcase desserts of all shapes and sizes at the annual scholarship benefit banquet and show on May 9 at Abraham Baldwin College.
        Sponsored by the ABAC Foundation, the event is in its 32nd year.  Its purpose is to raise funds for student scholarships.  Tickets are $125 each for a lavish buffet meal and the featured entertainment, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.  For ticket information, call (229) 386-3265. 
        Betty McCorvey, Assistant Director of Development at ABAC, said the dessert lineup includes Decadent Ganache Cups Expresso garnished with chocolate covered expresso beans, Chocolate Almond Truffle Bars, Deep Dish Pizza Miniatures featuring dark chocolate, white chocolate, pecans, and fruit; Lemon Bars with raspberry sauce; Marbled Strawberries; Cream Puffs; Signature Cakes including Double Chocolate, Red Velvet, Lemon, Coconut, Italian Cream, Strawberry, Mississippi Mud, Lemon Cheese, Black Forest, and Hazelnut.
        Cheesecakes will include Almond Amaretto, Strawberry White Chocolate, Praline, Irish Cream, Lemon, and Raspberry.  Tortes will be available in the flavors of Orange Cappuccino and Chocolate Truffles.  The menu will also feature Tiramisu and Fruit Napoleon Shortcake, as well as Kiwi and Cream Tarts, Country Peach Tarts, Blackberries and Cream Tarts, and Apple Petal Tarts.
        Opening the buffet line will be mixed greens, sliced mozzarella and Roma tomatoes, angel hair pasta, and broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots.  Featured items include chicken cordon bleu, fettuccini alfredo, fried shrimp, chef carved steamship round of beef accompanied by Bourbon Street potatoes, eggplant parmigiana, asparagus ala ABAC, and assorted rolls and bread.
        “We realize a lot people expect the meal to be something extraordinary, and I think this year’s food choices absolutely meet that requirement,” McCorvey said.  “It is going to be a fabulous evening.”
        The ABAC Foundation has raised over $1 million in scholarship funds since inaugurating the event.  It was formerly called Dollars for Scholars, but will operate under a different title beginning next year.  Dollars for Scholars is a federally registered trademark of Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of America, St. Peter, Minn.
        The Gatlins are known for 17 Top Ten hits, including “All the Gold in California,” “Broken Lady,” “Houston,” and “She Used to Be Somebody’s Baby.”
