ABAC STALLIONS OPEN BASKETBALL SEASON WITH TWO VICTORIES
The Abraham Baldwin College Golden Stallions’ basketball team opened the 2003-04 season with two wins during the Santa Fe Tournament in Gainesville, Fla. ABAC defeated Santa Fe 81 – 80 and Broward 67 – 66.
Todd Sheppard, who is in his first year as the men’s basketball coach at ABAC, said winning the two games in the Santa Fe Tournament was a great way to open the season.
“It’s always great to start on a positive note,” Sheppard said. “Winning our first games will definitely serve as a catalyst, giving the players the confidence to perform well in upcoming games. Naturally, winning is a great motivator, and the team has a lot of energy and is excited about the season.
“We have a great group of players, and they are working hard. The eight sophomores are providing great leadership for the freshmen. But the six freshmen on the team are also stepping up right away and playing tough.”
Sheppard said one of his goals as coach is to represent ABAC and the community in a first class manner.
“I believe that ABAC has a great atmosphere for junior college basketball,” he said. “The fans are always very vocal and supportive of the team, and the players need that kind of excitement. It really helps their game. I strongly encourage everyone to come to the games and lend their support to the men’s basketball program.”
