SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH $45,375 AWARDED TO ABAC STUDENTS

Fifty-seven scholarships totaling $45,375 were awarded to Abraham Baldwin College students during Wednesday=s Honors Day ceremony. The awards, provided through the ABAC Foundation, were based on a number of criteria such as leadership ability, character, academic excellence, and financial need.

The $2,000 Harold and Rowena Loyd FFA Leadership Scholarship was awarded to Joseph (Bo) Dotson, an agri-business major from Toccoa. A Daren Brownlow Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 went to Matthew D. Wyatt, an agricultural engineering major from Hamilton. Letitia N. Baisden, a political science major from Tifton, received a $1,500 Lanier Carson/Kelley Manufacturing Company Scholarship. Robert A. New, a forest technology major from Greenwood, S.C., received a $1,500 Connor Forestry Scholarship. A $1,500 Donald and Betty Jones Business Scholarship was awarded to Jill N. Williams, a business administration major from Tifton.

A $1,500 J. Fielding Reed/Georgia Plant Food Educational Society Scholarship was awarded to Christopher A. Williamson, an agricultural technology/plant science major from Abbeville. A Larry W. (Buck) Wheeler Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 went to Deidre C. Dorman, a nursing major from Chula. Christopher R. Brown, a nursing major from Quitman, received a $1,300 J. H. Dorminy Nursing Scholarship. Two ABAC Ag Alumni Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each went to David C. Brady, a wildlife technology major from Thomasville, and Jami A. Fuentes, an agriculture major from Homestead, Fla.

 Two ABAC Alumni Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded to Emily R. McGill, a family and consumer sciences major from Tifton, and Hillary D. Hamby, an allied health/occupational therapy major from Ocilla. A $1,000 Larry D. Allen Agricultural Leadership Scholarship was awarded to Candice N. Clark, an agriculture major from Rochelle. Shannon L. Wood, a nursing major from Adel, received a $1,000 Dr. Mike Bader Memorial Scholarship. A Josephine Cloudman Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 went to Israel Saucedo, a nursing major from Abbeville. Jessica A. Brown, a pre-medicine major from Ashburn, was awarded a $1,000 John Henry Dorminy Scholarship. A $1,000 Eason Agricultural Studies Scholarship was awarded to Dustin R. Kilby, an agricultural business technology major from Tifton.

Five Allen and Lelia Garden Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded to the following students: Cynthia L. James, a P-12 education major from Fitzgerald; Sabrina R. McGhee, a human services major from Fitzgerald; Charles A. Sneed, a political science major from Ocilla; April M. Rivera, a pre-nursing major from Fitzgerald; and Jackie W. Harper, a nursing major from Ocilla.

A $1,000 Georgia Forestry Association Scholarship was awarded to Marla D. Douglas, a forest technology major from Milan. Lily P. Webb, a nursing major from Sparks, received a $1,000 Shirley C. Hutchinson Memorial Scholarship. Two James L. Shepherd Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were awarded to Joy D. Steverson, an early childhood education major from Fitzgerald, and Bradly K. Hall, a biological and agricultural engineering major from Tifton. James D. Kent, a forest resources major from Waycross, received a Vernon Yow Forestry Scholarship for $900.

Two George Conger Scholarships in the amount of $872 each were awarded to John  David Sumner, journalism major from Tifton, and Mieko A. Camp, a biology major from Ocilla.  Kathryn G. Rayl, a business administration major from Fitzgerald, received a $756 George Conger Scholarship. An E. Ray Jensen Turfgrass Scholarship for $750 went to Justin S. Gates,  a golf turf management major from Clayton. Heather M. Futch, a psychology major from Sparks, received a Vera Conger Smith Scholarship in the amount of $750. 

Philippa Ruth Mpunzwana, a fashion merchandising major from Zimbabwe, received a $700 Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship. An E. P. &  Iliene Bowen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $600 went to Cynthia M. Plair, an early childhood education major from Tifton. Lindsey B. Willis, a nursing major from Poulan, received a Clarence Robert Lang Scholarship in the amount of $600. Kevin L. Mitchell, a business administration major from Ocilla, received a $600 Zell and Shirley Miller Scholarship. A $600 B. L. Southwell Scholarship was awarded to Tonya J. Cravens, an agricultural technology/animal science major from Dalton.

A $500 Jesse and Dolly Chambliss Scholarship went to Justin M. Chapman, an agricultural engineering technology major from York, S.C.  Mariana L. Quiroga, a journalism major from Tifton, received a $500 Eastman Scholarship. A Marshall Guill Scholarship for $500 was awarded to Jeffery H. McClendon, an agricultural engineering technology major from Enigma. Minne W. Nyutu, a P-12 education major from Kenya, was awarded a $500 Dorris Garrison Nelson Memorial Scholarship. A Southeastern Turfgrass Conference Scholarship for $500 went to Timothy J. Shelton, a landscape design major from Thomson.

Shannon L. Staten, a pre-pharmacy major from Statenville, received a $450 Frederick W. Kinard Scholarship. A $425 June Bennett Lindsey Nursing Scholarship was awarded to John S. Bolstridge, a nursing major from Abbeville. Michele I. Oliver, an allied health/physical therapy major from Tifton, received an Agnes Davis Donaldson Scholarship for $400. A $350 J. Baldwin Davis Scholarship was awarded to Cassandra R. Rykard, a business administration major from Adel. Kimberly A. Goins, a journalism major from Ty Ty, received a Warren Bruce Donaldson, Jr. Journalism Scholarship for $350.

  An S. L. Lewis Scholarship for $350 went to Heather L. Thompson, a business administration major from Marietta. Kerry L. Holcomb, a wildlife technology major from Ball Ground, received a Carlton Smith Scholarship in the amount of $350. A Beckham Nursing and a Janice C. Payne/Baldwin Woman=s Club Scholarship for $450 was awarded to Jennifer L. Raynor, a nursing major from Fitzgerald. A $300 Viola Carswell Johnson Nursing Scholarship went to Carolyn C. Dennard, a nursing major from Tifton.

A $300 Robert L. Miles Scholarship was awarded to Trisha R. Stephens, an agriculture major from Tifton.  Elizabeth B. Sellars, a business administration major from Tifton, was awarded a Charles W. Powell, III Scholarship for $300. Jennifer L. Wood, a family and consumer sciences technology/interior design major from Jonesboro, received an L. M. Veazy Memorial Scholarship for $300. A $250 John W. Strickland Scholarship went to Samuel J. Freeman, a mathematics major from LaGrange.
