DORMINEY CITED FOR TOP ACADEMIC HONOR

Jeanine Dorminey of Tifton was named the top academic student at Abraham Baldwin College during Wednesday=s Honors Day Ceremony. Dorminey received the J. G. Woodroof Scholar Award given annually to the ABAC student who is recognized in a proclamation by the Georgia General Assembly. Woodroof was president of ABAC from 1933 - 34.

Dorminey, a mathematics major, also received the Divisional Award of Distinction for the Division of Science and Mathematics and the Mathematics Divisional Discipline award. She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and was on the President’s List during the Fall 2001, Spring 2002, and Fall 2002 semesters. A member of the ABAC Fillies’ basketball team, Dorminey received All-Conference Honorable Mention for the 2002-03 season.

“I was surprised and very honored to win the J. G. Woodroof Scholar Award,” Dorminey said. “Sometimes it is difficult to balance academics and athletics, but I don’t really think about it. I just do it. Coach [Julie] Conner [Head Coach of the ABAC Fillies’ basketball team] is probably the best coach I ever had. She is not just a coach; she is also a mentor and a friend, both on and off the court.”

Dorminey, the daughter of Edd and Janice Dorminey, will graduate in the Spring of 2003. She said she is undecided about her future plans but will probably transfer to a four-year college that has a basketball program.
