ABAC BANDS TO PERFORM AT COOK HIGH SCHOOL

The Abraham Baldwin College Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band will perform at Cook High School in Adel on Nov. 24 from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. in the auditorium. The performance is open to anyone who would like to attend. There is no admission charge.

The ABAC Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Don Coates, will perform a mixture of swing, blues, rock-swing fusion, and even a Latin Samba. Performance pieces will include “Snaggletooth” by Mike Lewis, who made a name for himself performing with Jackie Gleason and KC and the Sunshine Band, “Boonies Blues” by Dominic Spera, “Left in the Dust” by Bill Liston, and Lance Strickland’s “One Eyed Jack.” Featured soloists in the ABAC Jazz Ensemble include Gail Wyles, piano; Jeffrey Crib, drums; Eugene Wyles, alto saxophone; and student Jeremy Dye, tenor saxophone.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Eugene Wyles, will present a variety of concert pieces, including Henry Fillmore’s “The Klaxon,” Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America,” which will be sung by Dr. Susan Roe, assistant professor of voice at ABAC,  and Claude T. Smith’s “Eternal Father, Strong To Save.”

ABAC students who graduated from Cook High School who will perform in the concert include Stephen Carter, percussion; Daniel Humber, tuba; and 2003 Band President Justin Shealey, percussion.

Upcoming ABAC performances include the annual fall concert, featuring the Concert Band and Concert Choir, on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Tift County High School and the ABAC Music Recital on Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. in ABAC’s Chapel of All Faiths. Admission is free for both performances.
