FIRST NIGHT GAME IN ABAC BASEBALL HISTORY ON FEBRUARY 28

The Abraham Baldwin College Golden Stallions’ baseball team will play the first night game in ABAC baseball history on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. against St. Catherine’s. Stallion Field was equipped with state-of-the-art lighting in the spring of 2002.

ABAC Coach Steve Janousek said he has a very good feeling about the 2003 ABAC baseball team.

“I believe we have a very good group of young athletes on the team this year,” Janousek said. “The players have been working exceptionally hard, and this will pay off as the season progresses. We have a good mix of youth and experience on the team, and the progression of the freshmen playing key roles will be a determining factor for our club this year. Our main strengths are pitching and defense. This could be the most talented pitching staff that we have had at ABAC during my six year tenure.”

Janousek said the baseball team’s goal is to become conference champions.

“This is a very tall order since the GJCAA is one of the toughest conferences in Division I junior college baseball,” Janousek said. “The eight other schools in the conference include Young Harris, Truett McConnell, Georgia Perimeter, South Georgia, Gordon, Andrew, Darton, and perennial national power, Middle Georgia. Our schedule is one of the toughest in the conference. The conference games are rough, but we also play a very challenging non-region schedule. The Stallions will face some of the top teams in Florida and Alabama as well as some of the top-ranked northern junior college teams.”

Janousek encourages ABAC faculty, staff, students, and the entire community to attend as many games as possible and to enjoy baseball at night for the first time in Tifton.
