ABAC'S PEGASUS LITERARY AWARDS SELECTED

          The 29th edition of Abraham Baldwin College's literary magazine, Pegasus, contains winning entries in the categories of prose, poetry, art, and photography submitted by ABAC students and high school students from across Georgia. The students were recognized at the annual Pegasus literary awards competition held recently at ABAC.

          In the Prose Category for high school students, first place was awarded to Alison Hennessee of Atlanta; second place to Nicole Walker of Cataula; and third place to David Holt of Roswell.

          In the Prose Category for ABAC students, Katie Davis of Tifton won first place.

          High school winners in the Poetry Category were Walker in first place; Sherrie Hines of Chula in second place; and Katie Wood of Pelham in third place. Honorable mentions went to Ashley Strickland of Tifton, Celia Davis of Dixie, Hannah Kruger of Thomson, Jenny Pirkle of Thomson, and Jennifer Sinclair of Roswell.

          ABAC winners in the Poetry Category were James Michael Elliot Gibson of Tifton in first place; Ashley Barrentine of Fitzgerald in second place; and Caroline Kitchens of Tifton in third place.

          In the Art Category for high school students, first place was awarded to Daniel Shippey of Tifton; second place to Melissa Hunter of Fitzgerald; and third place to Liz Rossing of Dalton. Honorable mentions went to Marcia Ammons of Carrollton, Ramon Rosado of Fitzgerald, Sarah Williams of Duluth, and Erin Ruoff of Blairsville.

          ABAC winners in the Art (Photo Digital) Category were John Sumner of Tifton in first place; Scott Beasley of Tifton in second place; and Davis in third place. Winners in the Art (3-D) Category were Jason Huggins of Tifton in first place; Adam Breedlove of Waynesboro in second place; and Laurie Smith of Tifton in third place. In the Art (2-D) Category, Elizabeth Moyer of Fitzgerald won first place and Nina Markham of Tifton won second place. Moyer also received honorable mention.

          Reba Nelson of Tifton won the Andrew McKay Award. Brian Brown, an ABAC alumnus from Fitzgerald, won the Editor's Choice Award.

          Nelson and Jon Kennon of Tifton served as editors of this year's Pegasus. Faculty advisers were Dr. Herbert Shippey and Dr. Su Senapati from the Division of Humanities.
