Angie Palmer has been selected as the new Director of Admissions at Abraham Baldwin College. She will begin her new position on Aug. 1.

Palmer was the President of Health Systems Management, Inc. in Tifton from 1987 - 1998.

She joined the ABAC staff in 1998 as the Program Coordinator for ABAC's Public Service & Business Outreach Center. In 2000, she became ABAC's Evening/Off-Campus Program Director.

A native of Dahlonega, Palmer received her M.Ed. degree in Business Education from Valdosta State University and her B.S. degree in Business Education from North Georgia College.

Tom Call, Interim Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services at ABAC, said Palmer is an excellent choice for Admissions Director.

"Through ABAC's Public Service & Business Outreach Center and the Evening/Off-Campus Programs Office, Angie has repeatedly demonstrated an excellent level of hard work, promotional savvy, cooperative spirit, student-friendliness, commitment to ABAC, and a keen understanding of how to get things done," Call said. "These traits will certainly serve her well as she assumes her new position."

Palmer said she is excited about a new opportunity to assist students as they begin their careers at ABAC.

"As Director of Admissions, I want to promote the rich heritage for which ABAC is known and also promote the exciting changes that are taking place on our campus, both with physical facilities and new programs and curriculum," Palmer said. "I feel that my work with the Evening/Off-Campus programs has broadened my knowledge about all aspects of ABAC. This background will help me work effectively with students in assisting them in making appropriate choices for their educational careers at ABAC. Above all, my number one priority is assisting students."

Palmer replaces Garth Webb who retired on June 30 after 28 years as ABAC's Director of Admissions. Anita Hobbs, Office Manager in ABAC's Admissions Office, has been serving as interim director.

Palmer and her husband, Jimmy, have two sons, Jim and Jon. Jon graduated from ABAC in May.
