The project to create the mural was sponsored by the SGA (Student Government Association). Bo Chesser of Nahunta, who served as the president of the organization, was a member of the Renovation Committee in charge of selecting a project for the dining hall.
A contest was held to select the design for the mural. Jason Huggins of Tifton won, and his idea became the theme for the mural. Rhonda Lott of Tifton was the runner-up. Both students will receive cash prizes.
Donna Hatcher, assistant professor of art in ABAC's Division of Humanities, and her students worked on the mural. Student volunteers included Adam Breedlove of Waynesboro, Nina Markham of Tifton, Amanda McAllister of Brookville, Elizabeth Moyer of Fitzgerald, Smith Sagesse of Naples, Fla., and Kimberly Young of Nashville.
Hatcher said the students should be proud of the work they have done.
"My students worked countless hours on the mural," Hatcher said. "They have left a lasting legacy for ABAC, and I am very proud of them."
This project was funded by the ABAC Foundation and ARAMARK Campus Dining Services, which also purchased the supplies and provided the cash awards for the winner and the runner-up.
