ABAC'S HOMECOMING DINNER FEATURES

DINING EXTRAVAGANZA

The annual Homecoming Dinner and Dance at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, "Up, Up & Away . . . Tour the U.S.A.," will offer an evening of extraordinary food served in a thematic setting. The dinner and dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 in the Donaldson Dining Hall. Alumni Director Nancy Coleman said the event is open to anyone who would like to attend at a cost of $20 per person. She said attendees do not have to be ABAC alumni.

Food Services Director B. J. Smith and her ARAMARK staff have selected a variety of foods from around the country. The dining experience will begin in Georgia, featuring salads made with Georgia products, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, peanuts, and pecans. Next, diners will enjoy foods from the coast, including a low country boil with shrimp, crab legs, sausage, whole new potatoes, and corn on the cob. Foods from Louisiana will include ragin' cajun chicken, red beans and rice, and tomatoes and okra.

The dining experience will move on to foods from Texas, featuring baby back ribs, baked beans, and Texas toast. Foods from San Francisco and the Orient will include stir fry chicken, beef with vegetables, fried rice, egg rolls with dipping sauce, and fortune cookies. Also featured will be the "Heart of the Sea" Newberg over puff pastry from the Pacific Northwest.

Foods from Chicago will include chef carved prime rib with horseradish and au jus and assorted rolls. The dessert extravaganza from New York includes fresh fruit, pecan tartlets, fruit tartlets, eclairs, cannoli, chocolate cups, petit fours, lemon diamonds, hazelnut torte, and New York style cheesecake.

Diners can finish the evening with a cup of coffee from the coffee bar, which includes specialty coffees, regular and decaffeinated coffees, and Irish Crème and French Vanilla accompanied by whipped cream, shaved chocolate, candied orange peel, and cinnamon.

While enjoying their coffee, patrons can listen to the music of the Jim Newton Band of Tifton. This group plays regularly for the Love Affair and other ABAC Arts Station events. Their music, which is from the 1940s and 1950s, is the perfect backdrop for after dinner conversation or dancing.

Tickets for the dinner/dance are $20 per person for adults and $7.50 for children ages 4-11 and should be purchased in advance at the Alumni Office. Tickets purchased on the same day will be accessed a $2 fee at the door.
