FIRST TUESDAY SERIES PERFORMANCE
OCTOBER 1 AT ABAC
The next event in the First Tuesday
Performance Series will take place Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at Abraham Baldwin College. As part of the Arts and
Entertainment Series sponsored by the Abraham Baldwin Arts Connection, regional
professional artists will be featured on the first Tuesday of every month in
the Chapel of All Faiths on the ABAC campus.
Individual tickets for the
performance may be purchased at the door. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for
students. ABAC students are admitted free with ID. Patrons of the Arts and
Entertainment Series can also attend at no charge. For additional information,

The second concert in the series will
feature Dr. Don Wauchope, French horn; Latrelle Gaff Dixon, soprano; Jon
Durkovic, organ; Blane Jacobs, baritone; Susan Spivey, piano; and David Van
Wyk, cellist.
Wauchope was first horn at all-state bands in North Carolina during high school and later
performed with the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill band and orchestra. He has also
performed with the Greenville, Mississippi Symphony and the Albany, Georgia Symphony. Wauchope plays regularly
with various ABAC and church ensembles, including the ABAC Concert Band and the
ABAC Brass Quintet.
Dixon graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Music degree and
a major in voice. She taught public school music and was a high school choral
director for many years. A charter member of the Tiftarea Choral Society, she
has served as both soprano soloist and guest conductor. Dixon is a member of the First Baptist
Church Choir of Tifton where she has served as an interim choir director and is
a soloist.
Durkovic received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Music
from Asbury College where his major instrument was the organ.
He also earned a Master of Music in Performance in Choral Conducting and Organ
from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Durkovic has served as both
conductor and organist for such organizations as the Fellowship of United
Methodist Musicians, the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, the
American Guild of Organists, and the Tifton Choral Society. He is currently the
organist for the First Presbyterian Church of Tifton.
Jacobs graduated with honors from ABAC with a degree in
Music. He is currently completing a degree in Vocal Performance with a Minor in
Church Music from Judson College.
He is the Minister of Music and Youth at the First Baptist Church of
Fitzgerald where he has served for the past nine years. Jacobs is also the co-coordinator of the
Children’s Choir Ministry.
Spivey graduated magna cum laude from the University of Valdosta with a degree in piano performance and
a degree in Music Education. Spivey is the accompanist for all choral events at
Fitzgerald High School and Ben Hill Middle School. She is also the pianist at First
Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
Van Wyk graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
cello performance and a Masters of Art degree in English Literature. He has
performed with the Dekalb Symphony, the Sandy Springs Chamber Orchestra, the
Valdosta Symphony, and numerous chamber performances throughout the Southeast.
He began studying the cello while in elementary school and has performed since
he was 11 years old.
