ABAC BAND AND CHOIR CONCERT NOVEMBER 21

Abraham Baldwin College’s Concert Band and Concert Choir will present their annual Fall Concert on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center. There is no charge for admission.

The Concert Band, directed by Eugene Wyles, will perform L. Aime Maillart’s “The Dragoons of Villars,” an example of early 19th century Romanticism. The piece was taken from an opera of the same name and transcribed for band performances. The band will also perform “Brighton Beach,” a concert march in British style composed by William P. Latham; “Anthem for Winds and Percussion,” a contemporary piece written by Claude T. Smith; “From Whom All Blessings Flow,” a hymn tune set in a symphonic setting for bands by Ed Huckeby; and “America the Beautiful,” composed by Samuel Augustus Ward and arranged by Carmen Dragon. While the band plays this song,    ABAC’s Director of Public Relations Mike Chason will read I Am Your Flag.

The Concert Choir, directed by Wayne Jones, will perform a “mixture of folk songs, art songs, and pieces related to Christmas.” Selections include the following: a Slavic piece called “CRN-BEL,” “Still, Still, Still,” “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” a 13th century plainsong; “O Magnum Mysterium,” a sacred Latin piece composed by Morten Lauridsen of the Los Angeles Master Chorale; and a Russian piece called “Veniki.”
