Elder's presentation is part of the lecture series, "Literature as a Reflection of Culture." The lecture series is part of the project "Celebrating Cultural Diversity," which is sponsored by ABAC's Division of Humanities. Elder is a professor of English at ABAC. She is an avid reader, a dynamic speaker, and an artist with a special interest in the crafts of different cultures.
The lecture at ABAC will be held at 3 p.m. in Room 202 in the Baldwin Library. A lecture will also be held at 7 p.m. at the Cook County Library in Adel. The lectures are open to the public.
Other lectures in the series include discussions on the writings of Hispanic author Isabel Allende and Indian author Jhumpa Lahiri. Each of the lectures will be presented by an ABAC professor at the Baldwin Library and at one of the branch libraries of the Coastal Plain Regional Library.
Erdrich, who explores the meaning of cultural identity, is the author of several novels, including Love Medicine, The Beet Queen, Tracks, Tales of Burning Love, and The Antelope's Wife. She has received numerous awards and prizes for her writing.
"Celebrating Cultural Diversity" is a project supported by the Georgia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities and through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly.
