LORRIE MORGAN TO PERFORM AT

DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS

Country music superstar Lorrie Morgan will be the featured performer on May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the 31st annual Dollars for Scholars Benefit Banquet and Show at Abraham Baldwin College.

Supporters of Dollars for Scholars have helped thousands of students over the years by contributing over $600,000 to student scholarship funds. All net proceeds from the $125 per person event go directly to students in the form of scholarships, making their dreams of college a reality. A limited number of reserved tables will be available at a cost of $1,250. This price includes eight tickets.

Sponsored by the ABAC Foundation, the event represents one of the ways in which the Foundation advances the cause of deserving scholars. The Dollars for Scholars banquet, which is prepared by Food Services Director B. J. Smith and her ARAMARK staff, always receives high marks for its quality and presentation.

Morgan, the daughter of Grand Ole Opry star George Morgan, spent many nights backstage at the Opry and made her debut there at age 13. Her career took off with the 1989 release of "Dear Me." With that record, as with those that followed, she combined passion and believability to carve a career that made her one of country music's biggest stars, releasing hit after hit and recording an impressive body of work. Hits like "Five Minutes," "Something in Red," "What Part of No," "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," and "Go Away" have helped her win TNN/Music City News awards for Female Artist of the Year four times (1994, 1996, 1997, 1998).

Morgan, who has three platinum, one double platinum, and four gold albums, has received several other awards, including Vocal Collaboration of the Year (with Jon Randall, 1997; with Keith Whitley, 1991), CMT Female Vocalist of the Year (1992), and CMA awards for Album of the Year (1994) for "Common Thread," Songs of the Eagles, and Vocal Event of the Year (with Keith Whitley, 1990). Morgan made her acting debut in the TNN movie Proudheart, which was nominated for a Cable Ace award.

Morgan's creative roots are also expanding in other directions. She is working on a book about country music as well as a movie script. She is also preparing to do an album project with her longtime producer Richard Landis. In addition, she and her husband, country music star Sammy Kershaw, who were married in the fall, are busy with their restaurant, "HotChickens.com."
