DAY LOOKS FORWARD TO HER ROLE AS MS. ABAC

Allison Lea Day, a freshman
early childhood education major from Ocilla and the newly crowned Ms. ABAC at
Abraham Baldwin College, said she has always liked pageants but never had any interest
in competing in one.
“I loved
watching the Miss America and Miss Georgia pageants on television,” Day said.
“When I was 16 years old, a family friend, Noah Griffin, encouraged me to enter
a pageant, but I didn’t want to do it. He eventually convinced me become a
contestant, and I loved it. I won first runner-up in that pageant and have
participated in eight others since then. Being in pageants is a lot of fun, and
participating in them has definitely helped boost my self-confidence.”
Day has performed well in these
pageants and won Miss Irwin County 2000-01, Georgia Miss Sweet Potato 2000-01,
and Georgia Imperial Miss Overall Most Photogenic 2001-02.
Naturally, Day was excited about
competing in the Ms. ABAC Beauty Revue.
“The Ms. ABAC Pageant is so huge,”
Day said. “I wasn’t used to being in front of such a big crowd. There were
about 550 people in the audience. I was surprised to win and really excited. I
think being Ms. ABAC will be a lot of fun. During the pageant I had an
opportunity to meet so many people, and I am looking forward to meeting even
more people in the future. Being Ms. ABAC will definitely open up a lot of
opportunities for me.”
Day said she decided to attend ABAC
because it is close to her hometown and because she had heard so many good
things about the college. She was also influenced by her father, Waylon Day,
and her uncle, Paul Cox, who are both ABAC alumni.
After receiving her Associate of
Science degree in Early Childhood Education from ABAC, Day plans to continue
taking classes on the Tifton campus and obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Early
Childhood Education through the program with
As Ms ABAC,
Day will represent the college by assisting in campus events, such as Open
Campus Day and Homecoming. She will also ride in the annual Christmas Parade in
downtown Tifton.
