ABAC FILLIES TAKE THE COURT ON FEBRUARY 9

The Abraham Baldwin College Fillies' tennis team will open the 2001 season on Feb. 9 in Jacksonville, Fla., against Pasco Hernandez Community College.

Margaret Treadway, who is the new women's tennis coach at ABAC, said she is excited about the upcoming season and feels confident that the team will do well.

"We have a very strong top three players and, hopefully, a solid balance to the rest of the line-up," Treadway said. "So we should win against all the two-year schools we face and against most of the four-year colleges. I think we have an excellent chance of winning the nationals this May in Tucson."

Treadway said she has specific goals for the team as well as personal goals for herself as a coach.

"I would like for the players who want to continue playing college tennis to finish with good records to help them get recruited," she said. "I would also like for everyone to see their own improvement so that they will enjoy tennis now and as a lifetime sport. One of my personal goals is to be able to help all of my players as students as well as athletes. Another goal is to help them improve their self-confidence and attitude."

The Fillies' first home match is on Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. against Gordon College.
