SGREC ENROLLMENT REACHES ALL-TIME HIGH

Approximately 275 students are attending classes at the South Georgia Regional Educational Consortium (SGREC) in Valdosta this fall semester, according to Dr. Joe Hathaway, Director of the SGREC.

This figure represents SGREC's highest all-time enrollment and is the third consecutive year that enrollment has increased. When the program began in the fall of 1998, only 36 students were enrolled. Since that time, enrollment has steadily increased--175 students were enrolled during the second year, and 220 were enrolled during the third year.

Hathaway said he is pleased with the high enrollment level and anticipates continued growth based on the success of the program and its statewide reputation.

The SGREC provides learning support courses and university system core courses. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for sophomore level classes at Valdosta State or any other University System institution.

Both day and evening courses are offered by the SGREC at VSU by four colleges in the University System: Abraham Baldwin College, Bainbridge College, South Georgia College, and Waycross College. These four colleges formed the SGREC to provide core curriculum courses and learning support to students at a low cost.
