Beth Saxon, former Director of Retention Programs at Abraham Baldwin College, was recently appointed to the position of Interim Registrar at ABAC. She replaced Tom Call, who has been named Interim Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services.
Saxon holds an M.Ed. degree in Secondary Education--Mathematics from Valdosta State College and a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Georgia State University.
Saxon came to ABAC in 1992 as a part-time instructor of mathematics in the Division of Science and Mathematics. In the fall of 1993, that position became full time. During the fall of 1997, Saxon became the Interim Chair in the Division of Developmental Studies. She remained in that position until the fall of 1999 when she became the Director of Learning Support (currently called Retention Programs).
Saxon was recently honored at the annual NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) national conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for her development of the AIM (Academic Intervention Management) advising program. The program was selected as one of four Outstanding Institutional Advising Program Award Winners by NACADA. ABAC was the only two-year institution to win the award this year, which was presented in October.
Saxon said she is excited about her new position.
"The Interim Registrar's position is challenging, and I am eager to begin," Saxon said. "I am looking forward to working with the excellent staff in the registrar's office and being part of Student and Enrollment Services."
Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, said Saxon's promotion to the position of Interim Registrar is merited on the basis of her excellent work as a math faculty member and as the Director of Retention Programs at ABAC.
"She has made many valuable contributions to the academic program that have helped many students become successful in their studies," Horne said. "She is careful and meticulous in paperwork--a vital characteristic for a registrar--but she is also a warm and approachable person who wants to solve problems and assist people who are having difficulties. She will be an excellent registrar, and I am happy to see her moved to yet another level of responsibility."
Call added, "I have worked with Beth for several years. From this experience, I know that she is a very hard worker, a good problem solver, and someone who constantly seeks to make things better for students here at ABAC."
