Dr. Bobbie Robinson, a professor of English, was recently selected as the new Interim Chair of the Division of Humanities at Abraham Baldwin College. She will assume the position effective July 1.

Robinson received her Ph.D. (English) from Baylor University and an M.A. degree (History), an M.A. degree (English), and a B.A. degree (English) from Valdosta State College. She has been a member of the ABAC faculty since 1992.

Robinson said she feels proud to be working on behalf of her colleagues in the Humanities Division.

"Primarily I want to do whatever I can to facilitate the good work the faculty members in the division already do," Robinson said. "Like everyone else on campus, we will undergo program review next year, making decisions about how programs function and determining their value to the students and the mission of the college. I want to help showcase all the programs offered by the Humanities Division.

"We've had many administrative changes in the Humanities Division in the last several years. I hope that I can foster a sense of stability among the faculty and help to move us forward with a feeling of camaraderie and collegiality, in an atmosphere of mutual respect for each other and for the programs we all work so hard to make successful."

Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, said she is pleased that Robinson accepted the interim position.

"Dr. Robinson is a seasoned and excellent professor who is known for her continuous efforts to improve her teaching and the learning environment of her classes," Horne said. "She is very aware that as chair of the division that houses the largest number of faculty members--including the Learning Support reading and composition faculty--her leadership is critical. What happens in the Humanities Division affects the welfare of every single student who enrolls at ABAC."

The former Chair of the Division of Humanities, Dr. Erin O'Neill, held the position since Aug. 1, 2000. She has accepted a position at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M.

Advertising for the permanent position will take place in the late fall, with the goal of naming the permanent chair on July 1, 2002.
