The ABAC Alumni Association and the ABAC Foundation will host the reception for ABAC President Mike Vollmer and his wife, Lennie. The event, which will provide an opportunity for people to meet the president, is the first of several events sponsored by the ABAC Alumni Association and the ABAC Foundation to honor the Vollmers. The reception is open to anyone who would like to attend. Vollmer became ABAC's ninth president on July 1.
Jane Gibbs, a 1952 ABAC alumna and the past president of the ABAC Alumni Association, is organizing the event. Gibbs, who also serves on the ABAC Foundation Board of Trustees representing the alumni board, served on the Presidential Search and Advisory Committee to select ABAC's new president. She also introduced Vollmer to the Alumni Board at its June meeting held at the ABAC on the Square Building in Moultrie.
Gibbs believes Moultrie is an ideal location for the reception.
"Colquitt County is a big area for both students and alumni," Gibbs said. "The current president of the Alumni Association, Calvin Perry, is from Colquitt County, as are three Foundation Board members, four Alumni Board members, and three Ag Alumni Board members. In addition, ABAC on the Square is closely knit to the college and plays an important role in the ABAC community."
Nancy Coleman, Director of Alumni Relations at ABAC and also a Colquitt County resident agrees with Gibbs on the importance of Colquitt County to ABAC.
"ABAC has a large presence in Colquitt County," Coleman said. "It is the second largest source of ABAC students outside of Tift County. Colquitt County is also ABAC's largest alumni base outside of Tift County."
Perry, a 1984 ABAC alumnus, said this is an exciting time for alumni and friends of ABAC.
"As President of the ABAC Alumni Association and as a Colquitt County resident, I am excited that President Vollmer will have a chance to meet with alumni and friends of ABAC," Perry said. "The Moultrie/Colquitt County community has shown its solid support of ABAC through the years. The community continues to show its support by the ever-growing number of students attending college through ABAC on the Square in Moultrie. This is an exciting time, and I encourage everyone to come to the reception on Sunday to meet our new president."
