ABAC OFFERS TWO NEW NURSING PROGRAMS

Abraham Baldwin College's Division of Nursing will offer two new nursing programs in addition to the traditional weekday nursing program, according to Wanda Golden, Chair of ABAC's Division of Nursing.

"The new programs were developed in response to the need for nurses as a result of the nursing shortage and to accommodate students who work full-time during the week," Golden said.

The Weekend Nursing Program is designed to meet the needs of students who cannot attend school during the week. This program will be offered beginning Spring Semester 2002 for applicants who meet the requirements. Nursing classes will meet Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.

The LPN-Paramedic One-Day Per Week Nursing Program is designed to meet the needs of individuals who hold a current license as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or who are currently certified as paramedics. For the first time at ABAC, paramedics can enter the same track as LPNs. Requirements for admission into the program are the same. This course of study allows students to attend nursing classes only one day per week for one year. Students will be admitted to the program every summer. Classes will meet on Wednesdays.

"These alternative track programs were created to assist students who hold full-time jobs further their education and to assist in meeting the needs of the community," Kitty Ray, Coordinator of Alternative Track Programs in ABAC's Division of Nursing, said.

For additional information about these programs, contact ABAC's Division of Nursing at (229) 386- 3262. Applications are now being accepted for the spring semester, which begins Jan. 7.
