ABAC RODEO TEAM MEMBERS LOOK FORWARD TO

PEACH STATE STAMPEDE

Rodeo team members Will Lane and Ronnie Davis are working hard as they prepare for Abraham Baldwin College's Eighth Annual Peach State Stampede. The rodeo will be held March 22 - 24 at the ABAC Rodeo Arena.

Lane, who has been a member of the rodeo team for the past two years, participates in three events: calf roping, team roping, and steer wrestling. He won the calf roping event last year. Lane is an animal science major from Hoboken.

"I feel our team has a good chance of doing well in the rodeo, especially since we have the home team advantage," Lane said. "Our team is really dedicated and is working hard to prepare for the rodeo. We are even staying over spring break to get prepared."

Davis, who competes in calf roping and team roping, was high school state rodeo champion. This is his first year on the ABAC Rodeo Team. Like Lane, he agrees that the team should compete well in the rodeo. He also feels that Rodeo Coach Buddy Johnson is doing a great job working with the team. Davis is an undeclared major from Norman Park.

Dr. Mac Rainey, Academic Advisor for the ABAC Rodeo Team, said he is looking forward to the Peach State Stampede.

"I think we have a really good opportunity to do well in several timed events, such as calf roping, team roping, and steer wrestling at this year's rodeo," Rainey said. "I am looking forward to seeing our team compete well for the hometown fans."

Under the direction of Johnson, the ABAC Rodeo Team will compete against men's and women's teams from Auburn University, Mississippi State University, Michigan State University, Murray State University, and the University of Georgia as well as several other teams.

Performances begin each evening at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 at the gate. Children under six are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
