KNOWLES WINS ABAC'S DONALDSON AWARD

          Laura Ann Knowles of McRae received the highest honor presented to a graduating student from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at Saturday's graduation ceremony. The ABAC Alumni Association presented Knowles with the George P. Donaldson Award for outstanding scholarship and leadership. Donaldson served as president of ABAC from 1947 - 61.

          Knowles, a family and consumer sciences major, graduated from ABAC with an Associate of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.

          Approximately 130 students participated in Saturday's ceremony, which was presided over by ABAC Interim President Homer Day. Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond served as guest speaker.

          Knowles was President of the Family and Consumer Sciences Club, coordinator of the Mr. ABAC Competition, and a member of the Baptist Student Union.

          Among the honors Knowles received were the Family and Consumer Sciences--Four-Year Divisional Discipline Award, the Agriculture and Forest Resources Divisional Award of Distinction, Who's Who at ABAC, and Who's Who at American Junior Colleges. She compiled a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

          Rebecca Ann Canaday, a psychology major from Moultrie, was the finalist for this year's Donaldson award. She received a plaque in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments.
