CHAMBLISS TO SPEAK AT ABAC'S AG FORUM APRIL 7

Congressman Saxby Chambliss will speak at the sixth annual Forum on Agriculture at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Homecoming 2001 celebration. The forum will take place April 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cordell Conference Room. The public is invited to attend.

The forum has become a tradition, providing state and national leaders an opportunity to speak about current issues and offering alumni and guests a chance to ask questions. Chambliss, recently appointed to a leadership position for the House Ag Committee, will discuss how the Bush Administration and Congress will handle agricultural concerns, especially the new farm bill.

"Because agriculture is the backbone of our state and the bedrock of our nation, I always look forward to opportunities to speak about the issues facing Georgia's agricultural community and the work we are doing in Congress to address those issues," Chambliss said. "I am certainly looking forward to speaking at ABAC."

Another highlight of the weekend will be the groundbreaking for the Red Hill Athletic Center. After five years of planning, the project will move to the next stage as Coach Norman "Red" Hill turns the first shovelful of dirt. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place April 7 at 2:30 p.m. near the tennis courts.

Plans for another campus project, the Pedestrian Mall, will be announced during the Awards Luncheon, which will take place April 7 at noon in the Donaldson Dining Hall. Sketches and architectural renderings will be available for viewing as members of the Alumni Board discuss how alumni can be involved in the project.

A Forestry/Wildlife Reunion will honor Richard L. "Dick" Payne upon his retirement as Associate Professor of Wildlife after 18 years of service to ABAC on April 7 in the Donaldson Dining Hall. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

The Homecoming Dinner and Dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 6 in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The Dance will feature the music of Swing Masters, who will play Big Band music as well as the music of Elvis and The Beatles.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended for ABAC's Homecoming 2001 events. To register, purchase tickets, or receive a complete schedule of activities, contact the Alumni Office at (229) 386-3321.
