SPURLOCK CITED FOR TOP ACADEMIC HONOR

          Mary H. Spurlock of Moultrie was named the top academic student at Abraham Baldwin College during Tuesday's Honors Day Ceremony. Spurlock received the J. G. Woodroof Scholar Award given annually to the student who represents ABAC during Academic Recognition Day in the Georgia General Assembly. Woodroof was president of ABAC from 1932 - 33.

          Spurlock, a business information technology major, has been a member of the President's List each semester at ABAC due to her perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is the wife of Samuel L. Spurlock. She also received the Division of Business Administration Award of Distinction.

          Five other Awards of Distinction were presented to the students with the greatest overall positive impact in each division, both academically and through college service.

          Laura A. Knowles of McRae received the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources Award of Distinction. Knowles also received the Family and Consumer Sciences--Four-Year Divisional Discipline Award. Bo M. Moore of Tifton received the Award of Distinction from the Division of Humanities. Moore also received the Journalism Divisional Discipline Award.

          The Award of Distinction from the Division of Science and Mathematics went to Dodd Gray Sledge of Sylvester. Sledge also received the Chemistry and Physics Divisional Discipline Awards in the Division of Science and Mathematics. The Award of Distinction for the Division of Nursing went to Jennifer Taylor of Fitzgerald. Michael S. Eason of Sylvester received the Award of Distinction for the Division of Social Science. Eason also received the English and Drama Divisional Discipline Awards in the Division of Humanities.

          A total of 31 Divisional Discipline awards were presented to students who excelled in their disciplines. In the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources, the Agriculture--Four-Year award went to Jennifer L. Hendrix of Sylvester. The Biological and Agricultural Engineering--Four-Year award went to Carl L. Stalvey of Ray City. The Divisional Discipline award for Agricultural Technology--Animal Science went to Angela R. Amerson of Bryan.

          Charlotte A. Feltman of Spartanburg, S.C., received the Forest Resources--Four-Year award. The Forest Technology award went to Michael A. Nixon of Carrollton. Nancy A. Gaines of Colquitt received the Family and Consumer Sciences Technology award. The Hospitality Management Technology award went to Elizabeth Stark of Oro Valley, Ariz. The Environmental Horticulture Technology--Ornamental Production award was received by Wendy J. Enfinger of Newton. The Environmental Horticulture Technology--Landscape Design and Grounds Management award went to Richard C. Stalvey of Valdosta. The Environmental Horticulture Technology--Golf Club Management award was received by Ashley Chance of Waynesboro; the Environmental Horticulture Technology--Golf Turf Management award went to Jeffrey B. Melear of Clayton. The Wildlife Technology award went to Laurel A. Dowswell of Macon. Jackie F. Hannah of Sumner received the Poultry Science Technology award.

          The Divisional Discipline Award in Business Administration went to Jessica Megan Sutton of Sumner. The Business Information Technology award was received by Christopher Chad Purvis of Lenox. The General Business award went to Melanie McClellan of Lithia Springs. Scott Shurling of Tifton received the Certificate of Excellence in the study of Principles of Accounting. This award, which is given by the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc., also includes a check for $100. The Management and Marketing award went to Annelize Cloete of Port Alfred, South Africa.

          Jonathan Palmer and Garrett Lightfoot, both from Tifton, were each recipients of the Divisional Discipline Award for the Division of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

          In the Division of Science and Mathematics, the Divisional Discipline award in Biology was received by Meghan Erin Davis of Jefferson; William Grant Waldrop of Tifton received the Math award.

          In Humanities, the Divisional Discipline Awards went to Lisa C. Redfield of Tifton for Spanish; Robert K. Eaton of Tifton for Music; and Timothy A. Drexler of Fitzgerald for Art.

          Social Science Divisional Discipline Award recipients were Rebecca A. Canaday of Moultrie in Behavioral Science; Mark W. Stephens of Macon in Criminal Justice; and Kelly D. Gibson of Albany in Early Childhood/Middle Grades Education. Two students received the History/Political Science awards: Christina L. Ward of Americus and Shelley D. DominyofTifton. The Human Services Technology award went to Eunice H. Shaddix of Moultrie. The Human Services Transfer award was received by Robin G. Lazenby of Ocilla. Dee Dee J. Brown of Rochelle receive the P-12/Secondary Education award.
