The maximum number of years for approval by the National League for Nursing is eight years. ABAC's nursing program was granted the full eight-year-approval in 1996. The next scheduled visit will be in 2004. The Georgia Board of Nursing grants full approval to nursing programs every four years. ABAC was again awarded full approval in 2001.
Wanda Golden, Chair of ABAC's Division of Nursing, said the full approval status by the Board of Nursing and the National League of Nursing accreditation indicates that ABAC's nursing program continually maintains and adheres to the stringent requirements required by these organizations.
"These guidelines and standards have been established to ensure that graduates from a school of nursing possess the skills and knowledge base required to safely enter into the practice of nursing," Golden said.
Like Golden, Pattie Clark, associate professor in ABAC's Division of Nursing, agrees that meeting the standards and guidelines is essential to the nursing program.
"In order to attain full approval, the ABAC nursing program must meet rigorous standards," Clark said. "The attainment of these standards ensures that the program provides a curriculum that assists an individual in giving safe, effective nursing care for culturally diverse clients in a variety of healthcare settings."
