SIXTEEN GRADUATE FROM ABAC POLICE ACADEMY

          Sixteen individuals from the south Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 175th session of the Regional Police Academy Basic Mandate Class at Abraham Baldwin College.

          Academy Director Tim Dorminey said that Ryner Patrick of the Tift County Sheriff's Office received the Overall Achievement Award for the 175th session. He also earned theAcademic Achievement Award and served as president of the class. Eric Dykes of Cordele, who is employed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, received second place for academics. The first place award for Firearms was awarded to James Dixon, Jr. of Tifton, who was sponsored by the ABAC Regional Police Academy. Danny Watson of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office received the second place award for firearms.

          Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, served as guest speaker at the graduation ceremony.

          Other graduates included Jonathan Blake of the Adel Police Department; Toney Burnette of the Donalsonville Police Department; Daniel Champion of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office; Derek Dixon and Tom Mothershed of the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office; Bryan Giddens of the Tift County Sheriff's Office; John Lee of the Waycross Police Department; Debbie Milline of the Bainbridge Police Department; Raymond Peterson of the Clinch County Sheriff's Office; Clifton Price of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office; Wilma Dukes, of Rebecca, who was sponsored by the Irwin County Sheriff's Office; and Marshall Wilcox of the Dougherty County Police Department.

          The Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
