Leonard McCoy, School Superintendent of Colquitt County, Donald Slate, School Superintendent of Worth County, Donnie Connell, Assistant Superintendent of Tift County representing Dr. Dan McIntyre, Superintendent of Tift County, Dr. Michael Moye, President of Moultrie Technical College, and Dr. Homer Day, ABAC's interim president, signed an agreement that will align the objectives and evaluation standards of courses offered in the Construction Program at the technical school and the Environmental Horticulture program offered at ABAC with the high schools.
Students will be eligible to receive advanced credit for certain high school courses in Construction and Environmental Horticulture once they enroll at ABAC or Moultrie Technical College as a result of the agreement. Other statewide articulated programs are Health Occupations, Business and Office Technology, Marketing, and some English and Math classes.
As a result of this agreement, students in the high schools will be able to continue their education after graduation with fewer entrance delays, duplication of course material, or loss of credit if they transfer between schools.
Tech Prep is a process that links high schools with two-year post-secondary colleges, and if possible, four-year institutions of higher learning by coordinating sequences of courses in career fields. The statewide Tech Prep articulation agreements were developed collaboratively by the Georgia Department of Education, Department of Technical and Adult Education, and local educators from across the state.
The articulation process is designed to encourage students to continue their education after graduation from high school and to help them make a smooth transition into post-secondary schools. The alignment of standards between high school and post-secondary courses eliminates unnecessary repetition and duplicated course content.
Since the Tech Prep articulation agreements are a statewide initiative, they provide opportunities for students who move throughout Georgia to transfer between participating institutions anywhere in the state without losing credits.
