Angie Palmer of Tifton has been selected for the position of Director of the Evening & Off-Campus Program at Abraham Baldwin College.

Palmer, who has been the Program Coordinator for ABAC's Public Service & Business Outreach Center since 1998, has extensive training in computer information systems and a strong business background. As program coordinator, she planned and administered a broad range of continuing education activities.

She worked with staff development and curriculum coordinators for each school system in ABAC's eight-county service area. In addition, she also routinely visited the area chamber of commerce directors and coordinated on-site non-credit programs for the surrounding communities in subjects such as computer training, small business development, and personal enrichment. This provided an opportunity for her to work with both the private and business sectors.

A native of Dahlonega, Palmer's previous career experience includes 15 years of working in health care administration at Health Systems Management, Inc. in Tifton. She received her M.Ed. in Business Education from Valdosta State University and her B.S. in Business Education from North Georgia College.

Palmer said she is anxious to get started at her new position.

"Ms. (Merle) Baker laid a good foundation for the evening and off-campus program, and I hope to build on what is already established," Palmer said. "I received my graduate degree through an evening program. So I am well aware of what it's like to work during the day and then take classes at night. One of my goals is to make our office as responsive as possible to the needs of evening and off-campus students."

Dr. Bettie Horne, ABAC's Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, said the college is pleased to obtain someone with Palmer's background and experience as Director of the Evening & Off-Campus Program.

"In her previous position with the Public Service & Business Outreach Center, Angie created an extensive network of business contacts and sharpened her ability to develop marketing strategies," Horne said. "These skills will be extremely beneficial as ABAC looks toward improving the services offered through our evening and off-campus program, an area where we expect services to grow over the next few years."

Former Director of the Evening & Off-Campus Program Merle Baker retired June 30 after 33 years of service at ABAC.

Palmer and her husband, Jimmy, have two sons, Jim and Jon. Jon will be an ABAC freshman this fall.
