Merle Baker, Rosalyn Donaldson, John Evans, Dr. Hal Henderson, Dr. Harold J. Loyd, Marolyn Mixon, and Dr. Gary Roberts together represent 217 years of service to the college.
"Emeritus status is an honor bestowed upon those who have made significant contributions over time," Horne said. "In a real sense, the college today is a result of the work of these individuals. Each has brought special gifts that will long be reflected in the institutional memory."
The prestigious titles Emeritus and Emerita are bestowed on those who have served ABAC 15 years or more, who are retired, and who have had a career that reflects quality teaching and/or service to the college.
Baker, ABAC's Director of Evening and Off-Campus Programs and Associate Professor of Social Science, received her A.B. degree from Valdosta State College and her M.Ed. degree from Mercer University. Her retirement becomes effective Sept. 1, after 31 years of service to the college.
Donaldson, Associate Professor of English in ABAC's Division of Humanities, retired in June after 35 years of service. She received her B.A. degree from Mercer University and her M.A. degree from Peabody College.
Evans, Associate Professor of Spanish, retired from ABAC in July after 35 years of service. He received his A.B. and M.A. degrees from the University of Georgia.
Henderson, Professor of Political Science in ABAC's Division of Social Science, received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Georgia Southern University and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi. His retirement will become effective Sept. 1, after 30 years of service to the college.
Loyd, President of ABAC and Professor of Business Administration, received his B.S. degree from Southwest Missouri State University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Missouri. A former Division Chair of Business Administration, Loyd retired Aug. 1, after 29 years of service.
Mixon, Associate Professor of Social Science, received her B.S. degree from the University of Georgia and her M.Ed. from Valdosta State University. Her retirement will become effective Sept. 1, after 26 years of service to ABAC.
Roberts, Professor of Social Science, received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Georgia Southern College and his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. His retirement will become effective Sept. 1, after 31 years of service.
