Dr. Charlotte Pfeiffer, professor of Humanities at ABAC and a member of the Advisory Council for the Georgia Center for the Book, has arranged for Alderman to speak to her 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m. classes on Nov. 15 in Room 319 of Conger Hall. The public is invited to attend.
Family Man, published by Mercer University Press in 1999, is Alderman's first novel. The book relates the story of Myra Boone, a strong Southern woman, who makes some surprising decisions and takes some brave actions. According to writer Mary Hood, "[Alderman] has a story to tell, and she tells it."
A native of Nashville, Ga., Alderman is a graduate of the ABAC Regional Police Academy. She writes poetry, songs, and plays in addition to novels. Alderman will read from her works and answer questions from members of the audience.
Pfeiffer said she is delighted that her students will have an opportunity to talk to a published writer and learn about her writing process.
"Alderman has a really interesting story to tell about her success in the publishing world," Pfeiffer said. "She draws from many different interests in her writing, and I am constantly amazed at her areas of expertise. Her enthusiasm for writing is contagious."
For additional info, please contact Pfeiffer at (229) 386-3103. Anyone planning on bringing a large group should let Pfeiffer know in advance so that she can make sure there are enough seats available.
