Parking Update

Public Safety Director Bryan Golden said there are a few empty spaces daily at the Red Hill Complex and at the baseball field parking lot.  The north lot, the south lot, and the Stallion Drive lot have very few spaces during the morning hours.  Golden said citations will be issued this week for students parking in fire lanes, around the residence halls, and on the grass.  Thank you for dealing with the parking situation in a positive manner during the first week of class.

Holiday September 1

ABAC will be officially closed for the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 1.  Regular office hours will resume at 8 a.m. on Sept. 2.

Enrollment at Alltime High

Registrar Beth Saxon said at presstime the enrollment was 3,225 students.  That does not include the students who will be added to the headcount from the South Georgia Regional Educational Consortium at Valdosta State.  If those numbers hold true as in the past, the enrollment could easily top 3,300.

The fall term of 2002 set an alltime record at ABAC with 3,033 students.  It marked the first time in the 95-year history of the college that enrollment was over 3,000.

First Tuesday September 2

The first of seven First Tuesday Concerts will be held Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.  The concert is absolutely free.  Featured performers will be the ABAC music faculty.  Call First Tuesday Coordinator Susan Roe at 386-3097 for more information.  Make your plans to attend.

Ambassadors Deadline Tuesday

Students who hope to be a member of the ABAC Ambassadors this year should turn in their applications by Tuesday at noon to the Public Relations Office on the second floor of Tift Hall.  Interviews will be held on Thursday.

Get Fit for Life

Fit for Life lunches begin on Sept. 2.  To renew your membership in  the Fit for Life Club, you will need to call the Health Center for a physical.  Appointments are available on Fridays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and take only 10-15 minutes.  Even if you had a check-up with the Health Center earlier this year, you need to set up an appointment to update your file.  Once the physical is completed, the Public Service and Business Outreach Office will be notified, and a card will be issued to you.  PSBOC Director Diane Kilgore said the Fit for Life Club is free for all ABAC faculty, staff, administrators, and spouses, as well as for ABAC students.

Cordell Lecture September 30

Mark your calendar for the annual Tom M. Cordell Distinguished Lecture Series on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cordell Conference Room featuring author Anthony Grooms.

In the seminar, ABAC faculty and staff members will teach students how to apply for admission and financial aid and how to prepare for placement testing. Career and transfer programs available at ABAC will also be discussed.

The seminar will meet 11 Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. through Nov. 11. Since class size is limited to 15 students, students should register early. The cost is $49 and includes the following: a $20 application fee if the student decides to apply to ABAC, a textbook, and waiver of ABAC 1000—Freshman Seminar as a graduation requirement upon successful completion of the ACE Seminar and enrollment at ABAC.

For additional information about the ACE Seminar, contact Dr. Gail Dillard at 386-7154, or e-mail her at gdillard@abac.edu.

Summer Term Has Highest Enrollment

Figures recently released by the Registrar's Office at Abraham Baldwin showed a 2003 summer term enrollment of 1,567 students, an increase of 16.2 percent over the 2002 summer term. This figure represents the highest summer enrollment in the history of ABAC. A total of 1,349 students were enrolled during the 2002 summer term.

The enrollment figure includes students attending classes at the South Georgia Regional Educational Consortium (SGREC) in Valdosta. ABAC is one of the participating institutions in the Consortium. In addition, approximately 233 students attended classes in Moultrie this summer.

The Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) enrollment for Summer 2003 was 667, a 16.2 percent increase over the FTE enrollment for Summer 2002. The FTE enrollment figure represents the number of students carrying 12 or more hours.

The report indicated that female enrollment was 66.8 percent. A total of 98 percent of the students enrolled were Georgia residents. During the summer term, nine international students were enrolled in addition to 24 students from states other than Georgia.

Care & Concern

Ray Wells was released from Phoebe Putney Hospital on Thursday.  He is in no pain but will continue chemo treatments, which will lower his immune system drastically.  He still has no blood clotting factors, so his condition is still very serious.  Ray and Jean both send a big THANK YOU for all your prayers.  Please continue to remember them.

Notes of Thanks

Thanks for thinking of me in a special way upon hearing about my father’s passing.  I appreciate your caring attitude.
