Photos will be made for the annual
Faculty/Staff Directory on Aug. 13 from 1-1:30 p.m. and from 2:30-3 p.m. in the Cordell Conference Room lobby. Please
have your picture made for the directory so everyone will be included.
Grand Opening Today
The Grand Opening for the Pedestrian Mall
will be held today at 11 a.m. with an event that begins in the Cordell
Conference Room and ends with a “concrete cracking” in front of the Carlton
Center. All faculty, staff, and students
are welcome to attend.
Fall Conference August 13
The annual Fall Conference for the faculty
and staff at Abraham Baldwin begins at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. Breakout sessions are planned after a
one-hour general session. The conference
continues on Aug. 14. The first day
culminates with a 6:30 p.m. social in the Donaldson Dining Hall. The cost is only $2 per person with a maximum
charge of $10 per family.
Entertainment at the social will include a
brass ensemble featuring songs with patriotic and regional themes. There will also be a zany game show titled Partners in Crime, and the talented “BSU
crew” will be helping your kids with activities. Please come dressed in your red, white, and

Funeral for Collins
Services were held July 29 for ABAC
basketball recruit Maurice Collins. The
18-year-old from Houston, Texas, was trying out for the Golden Stallions when
he suddenly collapsed on the floor of Gressette Gym
on July 23. Collins later passed away at
Tift Regional Medical Center. President
Mike Vollmer and Men’s Basketball Coach Robert Moore were in attendance at the
funeral.
Orientations on the Way
New student orientation will be held for
students at ABAC on the Square in Moultrie Tuesday at 6 p.m. Evening student orientation for students attending
the main campus will be held Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Carlton Center. The final orientation for first-time entering
students will be held Aug. 15, and registration is scheduled for Aug. 16. Classes begin on Aug. 19.
Mandala Move-In Days
Director of Student Life Bernice Hughes has
announced that the Mandala Move-In Days will be held
from 2-6 p.m. on Aug. 14 and during the same timeframe on Aug. 18. Last year’s move-in days were a great help to
students and parents. You can
participate in this year’s event by contacting Hughes’ office at 386-3233. The move-in
days are sponsored by the Mandala Movement Partners
and Student Life and Housing.
Learning Support Relocates
The Office of Learning Support is now located
in Conger 213. The phone number will
remain the same. Humanities Division
Chair Bobbie Robinson has relocated to King Hall, former home of Learning
Support.

Cordell Lecture September 23
Janisse Ray will
be the featured speaker at the next edition of the Tom M. Cordell Distinguished
Lecture Series on Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cordell Conference Room. Ray is the author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood.
This is the book that the freshman orientation classes will be reading
this semester. Pick up a copy at the
Bookstore. Enjoy it yourself, and plan
to be in attendance when Ms. Ray speaks at ABAC.

Eugene and Gail Wyles
are proud to announce the birth of their fifth grandchild, Ian Conner Wyles. He was born
July 26 and weighed nine pounds. The
proud parents are 1996 ABAC graduates Eric and Jennifer (Lott) Wyles.

Scholarship Recipients Announced
Betty
McCorvey and Missy Hutto
attended the Watson-Brown Foundation’s Scholarship Awards Luncheon in Thomson
on July 27. The Foundation awarded $1,065,000 to 337 college students attending
77 different colleges and universities across the country. Seven ABAC students received this prestigious
scholarship in the amount of $3,000 each.
ABAC was the only two-year
institution with scholarship recipients.
Current ABAC students receiving the
Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship were Joseph T. Chastain, James M. Handley,
Amanda Lewis, Kristy Shiver, Molly Snow, Shellie Story, and Jennifer Wood. Former ABAC students Robert Boatwright,
Rebecca Canady, Meghan Davis, Sherrie Hines, Matthew Howell, Marcus Owen, Mary
Jane Snow, and Grant Waldrop also received scholarships.
Care and Concern
Lonnie Gibson underwent surgery at Colquitt
Regional Medical Center on July 26 to
repair a hernia. He is recuperating at
home.
Former ABAC nursing faculty member Sandie Delk has been hospitalized
twice this summer with medical problems that, at this point are
undiagnosed. She is at home and under
the care of several physicians. Please
keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

of Sympathy
Sympathy is expressed to Philip Hightower
whose grandfather, Floyd Fletcher, passed away on July 23. Sympathy is also extended to Jeff Gibbs
whose mother, Judy Gibbs, passed away on
July 28. Please keep these members of
the ABAC Family in your thoughts and prayers.
The ABAC Family was also saddened to learn
of the death of ABAC student James B. Nugent.
He was killed in a car accident
on July 29.
