ABAC Welcomes Student Development Specialists To Campus

TIFTON—Rebecca Cofer, Derek Sutton, Rebecca Hamilton, and Nicholas Urquhart have joined the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College staff as Student Development Specialists in the Office of Enrollment Services.

Donna Webb, Director of Enrollment Services, stated that “the student development specialists will build relationships with the students within their designated schools, assist in the recruiting process, and continue to take customer service to the highest level to help students succeed in their academic careers at ABAC.”

Cofer is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English and History and her Masters degree in English Literature. While at Virginia Tech, she worked in the campus advising center and writing center.  A native of Woodbury, NJ, she worked for Texas Tech University in the Office of Student Disability Services. Her husband, Jordan, is a new faculty member in the ABAC School of Liberal Arts.

Cofer said, “I’m really enjoying the small college atmosphere, and I’m having a great time working with the students.”

Sutton is a Dahlonega native who received his bachelor’s degree in History and his Masters degree in Public Administration from North Georgia College and State University. He began teaching part- time at his alma mater as soon as he graduated. He later became a full-time faculty member.

“I feel right at home here,” said Sutton. “It’s always nice to feel welcome right when you walk through the door.”

Hamilton is a recent graduate of the University of Florida, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Food and Resource Economics.  She grew up on a farm in Riverview, FL and was an avid gymnast. She did some coaching of gymnasts while at the University of Florida.  Rebecca’s knowledge of Florida will enhance out-of-state recruitment efforts.

Hamilton said, “I like the student involvement and the student focus ABAC offers. I’m excited to work more within the schools.”

Urquhart is originally from Columbus. He received his bachelor’s degree in math and art from Mercer University and received his master’s of Science from Springfield College in Springfield, MA.  He was an investigator with First National Bank in Fort Collins, CO, before joining the ABAC family as an adjunct instructor for ABAC in art and mathematics.   His wife, Amanda, is a full-time instructor in the School of Science and Mathematics.

“I’m excited to work with the students from the time they start until graduation,” Urquhart said.
